On Wednesday, Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, criticized President Lee Jae Myung for failing to condemn North Korean provocations during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. She called it a catastrophic move that essentially acknowledges North Korea's nuclear arsenal.

During a press conference at the National Assembly, Na stated that one of the soldiers lost his ankle due to a mine explosion, likely planted by North Korea. Yet, instead of condemning these provocations at the United Nations (UN), the President chose to speak about respecting the North Korean regime and pleading for peace. Is this appropriate?

Na referenced the recent mine explosion incident in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), presumed to involve a North Korean-laid device near the Army's 25th Infantry Division. She added that what's more, an officer from the same division was found dead.

The lawmaker expressed her disapproval, saying that rather than holding the aggressors accountable for their provocations, the President merely repeated platitudes about respecting their regime and peaceful coexistence without conflict. Is this truly reflective of the national security stance of South Korea's Commander-in-Chief?

Addressing the denuclearization plan mentioned in the speech, Na pointed out that instead of using the internationally recognized term denuclearization of North Korea, he opted for the ambiguous phrase a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. This effectively sidelines the goal of complete denuclearization of North Korea on the global stage.

Na demanded immediate transparency regarding the DMZ mine explosion, calling for the release of forensic results on the mine fragments and confirmation of North Korean involvement. She urged the government to strongly condemn North Korea's military provocations and implement swift military and diplomatic measures to deter violations of the military demarcation line and militarization of the DMZ.

Following the press conference, Na told reporters that the President's UN speech, devoid of any condemnation, promotes a false sense of peace. His three-step plan is nothing more than wishful thinking.

She concluded that there's only one crucial aspect to investigate in this incident: the mine fragments. Why isn't the Ministry of Defense confirming whether they're of North Korean origin or not? What's causing this delay?
