North Korea marked International Workers’ Day with a central report meeting, emphasizing labor mobilization and the implementation of tasks set at the ruling party’s 9th congress.

The ruling Workers’ Party newspaper <em>Rodong Sinmun</em> reported May 2 that a ceremony marking the 136th anniversary of May Day was held the previous day at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang.

The newspaper described the event as part of an “all-people struggle to open a new phase of comprehensive socialist development.” Premier Pak Thae-song, who delivered the report, said workers find purpose in dedicating themselves to the party and the state and called for demonstrating a “heroic spirit” in carrying out the national five-year economic development plan.

Page 2 focused on the Central Cadres Training School of the Workers’ Party, describing it as a “base for cultivating core party personnel” and “the starting point for a new era of party building.” It added that the institution serves as a “revolutionary university” to ensure the party’s enduring governing capacity and leadership.

Page 3 highlighted training sessions for participants in the 11th Congress of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League. The newspaper said the sessions stressed that the youth league must fulfill its role as a loyal vanguard of the party and an organization of patriotic youth, while calling for strict and unconditional implementation of party policies—underscoring discipline and loyalty within youth organizations.

Page 4 described nationwide May Day celebrations, stating that “joy and excitement filled every corner of the country” and that workers demonstrated “revolutionary spirit” through performances, sports and recreational activities, and visits to memorial sites. It said these events heightened public enthusiasm for contributing to national prosperity.

Page 5 emphasized innovation in science and technology management. The newspaper said “scientific and technological strength does not automatically translate into economic power,” calling for closer integration between research and production. It added that science and technology contribute between 70% and 90% to economic development, stressing the need for coordinated national management.

Page 6 introduced the construction of a rural branch school in Jangphung County, Kaesong, describing it as an example of dedication to the party’s education-first policy. The report said the once-remote school had been fully renovated and highlighted children’s laughter as a reflection of state benevolence.
