LG Electronics unveiled its innovative five-member artificial intelligence (AI) idol group AI-DOL on August 28, with the official announcement following on Monday.

AI-DOL is a cutting-edge project by LG Electronics, designed to captivate younger consumers and showcase the appeal of their new all-in-one washer-dryer.

The group embodies a Neo Y2K concept, reimagining the iconic Y2K aesthetic of the late '90s and early 2000s for today's audience.

AI-DOL's unique style blends retro nostalgia with futurism, reflecting LG Electronics' advanced technology and AI innovations.

Their music is crafted to evoke the refreshing feel of the AI washer-dryer while delivering a sleek, dynamic sound that embodies cutting-edge AI tech.

The group consists of five distinct personalities: the confident all-rounder leader 'Lee Yeon,' the mysterious perfectionist Mo Ah, the fierce performer Seong Hyun, the visually striking Hee Jae, and the caring and attentive Soo Ah.

Each member represents key features of the AI washer-dryer, including its all-in-one large capacity, AI time sensing, AI washing and drying, streamlined flat design, and mini wash function.

AI-DOL has been building anticipation through teaser videos displayed on digital screens across Seoul's bustling areas like Gangnam Station, Samsung Station, Gwanghwamun, Namdaemun, and Myeongdong, as well as on social media platforms.

The group pre-released their debut single "I WASH" on Instagram on July 30, quickly climbing to the top spot in popular audio and securing fourth place on the Reels popularity chart with their choreography video.

The dance challenge has gone viral on Instagram and YouTube, with celebrities like singer Choi Yena, comedian Lee Seonmin, and choreographer Hyojin Choi joining in on the trend.

Oh Sung-taek, LG Electronics' Vice President (VP) of Korean Marketing Communications, explained that washing machines are ubiquitous appliances, so it needed a fresh approach to highlight the latest innovations. It's committed to pushing creative boundaries in the advertising strategies to offer consumers an engaging and unexpected experience.

The LG AI washer-dryer is a revolutionary all-in-one appliance combining washing and drying functions. The latest model, launched in June 2026, boasts industry-leading capacities of 25 kg (55 lbs) for washing and 21 kg (46 lbs) for drying.

It features a combinable mini wash (4 kg or 8.8 lbs) for separate loads, controllable through the main unit's 7-inch display.

Standout features include AI time sensing, which estimates cycle times in just three seconds based on load size, and AI time guidance, which learns usage patterns to provide increasingly accurate drying time estimates.
