BMW Korea has officially launched the facelifted model of its luxury flagship sedan, the New BMW 7 Series, in the domestic market.

On Wednesday, BMW Korea held a launch event for the New BMW 7 Series at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

First introduced in 1977, the 7 Series has become BMW's flagship sedan, dominating the imported large luxury sedan market in South Korea for three consecutive years. According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), BMW sold 5,128 units last year, with sales reaching 5,834 units when including the all-electric i7 model.

The updates to the New BMW 7 Series are so extensive that they nearly amount to a complete redesign. Notably, it's the first model in the existing lineup to incorporate BMW's next-generation mobility vision, Neue Klasse.

The new 7 Series showcases the Neue Klasse design language with a refined front end, featuring a vertical 'BMW Kidney Iconic Glow' grille and split headlights.

Inside, the sedan boasts the new BMW Operating System X, which powers the BMW Panoramic iDrive. This system projects driving information across the entire lower windshield and includes a three-dimensional (3D) head-up display to minimize driver distraction. The vehicle also features a T-map-based navigation system tailored for the Korean market.

In a first for the BMW brand, all models come standard with a 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Display for front-seat passengers. This screen allows passengers to enjoy streaming content while the car is in motion, with an interior camera that pauses playback if it detects driver distraction.

The rear seats are equipped with a 31.3-inch 8K resolution BMW Theater Screen. A new 5-megapixel camera enables video conferencing or laptop connectivity for use as an extended monitor. Higher trim levels feature executive lounge seats that recline up to 43 degrees.

The powertrain lineup consists of four models: one gasoline variant and three fully electric options. BMW plans to introduce diesel, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and high-performance models in the future.

The gasoline model, the New BMW 740 xDrive, pairs a turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48V mild hybrid system, producing 400 horsepower and 59.1 kg·m of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (about 62 mph) in just 5.1 seconds. This model offers 19 more horsepower than its predecessor and improves fuel efficiency from 10.3 km/L (about 24.2 mpg) to 11.0 km/L (about 25.9 mpg). The vehicle comes standard with adaptive two-axle air suspension.

The electric model, the New BMW i7, features sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. It utilizes cylindrical battery cells with up to 20% improved energy density and a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter to enhance driving efficiency.

The New BMW i7 50 xDrive delivers 455 horsepower and 67.3 kg·m of torque, with a range of 508 km (about 316 miles) on a single charge according to Korean certification standards—an increase of 53 km (about 33 miles) over the previous model. It reaches 100 km/h (about 62 mph) in just 5.5 seconds.

The i7 60 xDrive boasts 544 horsepower and 76.0 kg·m of torque, with a driving range of 508 km (about 316 miles) on a single charge—70 km more than its predecessor. It accelerates to 100 km/h (about 62 mph) in 4.8 seconds.

The high-performance i7 M70 xDrive packs a punch with 680 horsepower and 103.5 kg·m of torque, rocketing from 0 to 100 km/h (about 62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds. Its driving range on a single charge has increased by 101 km to 492 km (about 63 miles to 306 miles).

The driver assistance system, BMW Symbiotic Drive, ensures that even if the driver steers or accelerates and brakes manually, the assistance features remain active and respond to the driver's intentions.
